BMW iDrive system will be powered by nVidia GPUs for an optimal, in 1280 x 600 pixels, the display of multimedia and GPS. The first models will be on display at CES.
Navigation systems and car entertainment in the high-end vehicles will soon have nothing to envy our PC and it makes sense we find some common components inside. For example the graphics chip, or GPU.
Thus, after the new Audi's Q5 MMI system since 2009, it was the turn of BMW to trust nVidia iDrive navigation systems of all models of new generation, worldwide. During CES 2011 in Las Vegas which opens tomorrow, the German and the American brand will present a joint 5 Series highlighting the novelty.
The new iDrive system with an nVidia graphics chip will introduce a new generation of interface, defined in 1280 x 600 pixels. Until then, the 10.2-inch screen of the BMW 7 Series was satisfied with 1280 x 480 pixels. What better graphics card, icons and illustrations, but also render services connected like the weather or the video decoding.
Ranges involved range from the 7 Series in the Mini, via the 5 Series, 3 Series and X6 SUV, X5, X3 and X1. (EP)
